LOS ALCÁZARES
In the southeast of Spain, within the Region of Murcia and in the center of the wide curvature of the Mar Menor, is LOS ALCÁZARES, a name it receives in memory of the palaces that during the Middle Ages were peeked at the seashore . Los Alcázares offers seven kilometers of beach, an average annual temperature of 18ºC and a different sea to enjoy all year. Its waters contain a high concentration of salts and iodines, which make them medicinal. The seven kilometers of coastline are distributed on the following beaches from north to south, most of them awarded with the distinctive Blue Flag and “Q” for Tourism Quality: Las Salinas Beach Los Narejos Beach Las Palmeras Beach Playa del Espejo Beach of Manzanares Carrión Beach La Concha Beach
WHAT TO DO IN LOS ALCÁZARES
Practice any type of water sport throughout the year in the best race course, the Mar Menor. Participate in sports activities organized throughout the year: aerobics, rhythmic gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, squash, basketball, football, bodybuilding, etc. or play golf in La Serena.
Take a pleasant boat trip around the islands of the Mar Menor and if we prefer something more exciting, we can embark to the Grosa Island, nestled in the Mediterranean Sea.
Visit the Marina, renovated retaining its initial appearance, an old spa.
With an exceptional situation and a few meters from the beach, we welcome you to an oasis of peace: Punta Calera Spa. A Municipal center where the body gives itself to the pleasure of sensations.
WHAT TO SEE
TORRE DEL RAME OR RAMÍ Fortress of Arab origin that was part of the surveillance system of the coast of the Mar Menor and that during the Spanish repopulation was remodeled to prevent pirate incursions along the Mediterranean coast. Except for the crenellated, the fortress has not undergone any modifications, maintaining the thickness of its walls and its height (about 9 meters).
MUNICIPAL INDEPENDENCE MONOLITO Nestled in Paseo de Carrión recalls the exact place where the boundary between the municipalities of Torre Pacheco and San Javier was located, to which Los Alcázares belonged before segregating. It was built in 1993, on the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of municipal autonomy.
GASTRONOMY
The GASTRONOMY of the area is famous for the simplicity of its recipes, as well as for the richness and variety in its ingredients.
Fish and shellfish, with gilthead seabream, mullet and, of course, shrimp from the Mar Menor occupy a prominent place. Without forgetting, of course, the salted fish, the mojama, the beautiful salty and the tuna of ijada, which constitute some great appetizers. The typical dish par excellence is the cauldron, originally a sailor, cooked with fish of different varieties and in whose broth a succulent rice is made. Considering that the Campo de Cartagena is one of the most important agricultural areas of the Region, we also have a great diversity of land products that enrich our Mediterranean diet. As for desserts, the fruit is the star of our table, with a great variety and richness.
